Probably the biggest challenge humanity has ever faced is climate change. The impact of human activities -especially industrial ones- drove the ecosystem unbalanced. As a result, hundreds if not thousands of species that couldn’t adapt, have gone extinct. And unless we take action collectively, we’ll soon be next to go extinct!
Scientists believe that there’s still hope! They believe decarbonizing our economy and industry to be effective in healing our beloved planet faster! And Huntzen’s here to tell you more about this!
What is Decarbonization in the first place?
Well, decarbonization’s literal meaning is to eliminate Carbon!
Decarbonizing our economy, accordingly, refers to the process of replacing the existing energy system with other resources that can supply energy but with fewer environmental damages over time!
However, within this transformative process, several challenges float to the surface.
But there must be some techniques to apply and alleviate challenges that may set an unknown and unused lifestyle, right?
This post will now shed light on some of these techniques, with the hope that you’ll join us and try to save our planet as well!
3 Techniques to contribute to the decarbonization of the economy
1. Collective awareness
The UK is the world’s leader when it comes to adapting to new environmental changes. The kingdom’s currently establishing foundations for a carbon-free industry.
A part of the UK’s plan is to raise awareness and encourage investors to pick low-carbon businesses over polluting ones. Although it is economically challenging, the British government assures its support for low carbon investments to become more dependent and valuable so the customer will meet his needs with less carbon consumption.
Moreover, in the same strategy, the UK attempts to lower the price of both emissions allowances and the cost of carbon capture and utilization storage (CCUS) technologies to develop an industrial carbon capture agreement... Hopefully, this will be a step to a new market for negative emissions technologies.
2. Biomethane as an alternative for gas
Several countries, including the UK, rely on-grid system pipes to supply houses with gas for heating needs. These same countries are pretty capable of switching to biomethane since the latter can work literally with the same existing system without the need to invest any dime to establish a new one!
Biomethane is even more flexible and easier to store, and it can either be produced artificially (and will still be eco-friendly than natural gas) or collected through a system of gas recovery from wasted food, sewage, human & animal turds.
3. Conscious consumption
Whether you’re an entrepreneur, business owner, or a worker, conscious consumption is something you can and should adopt as a lifestyle.
Conscious consumption refers to the practice of consuming goods that are less harmful to nature when having multiple choices. A wild example would be cars; if you can purchase an electric SUV, why opt for a gas one?
But this can also be applied to small buying decisions we make every day! For instance, we can buy reusable tote hemp fibre bags instead of plastic ones and buy just enough food we need, skipping that snack you’d buy in a plastic cover and God only knows how much pollution is produced before reaching you! Simply put, try to stay away from plastic and chemical products as much as possible!
On a larger scale, entrepreneurs can and should seek to build green businesses make a profit and save the planet! We’ve published a whole article to suggest some green business ideas to you!
Conclusion
You and I may not be directly responsible for how severe environmental change has come, but we know one thing, you and I have all the power over the future and can alleviate this severity and save our beloved planet. Do your best to spread awareness & always be conscious in your decisions!
If it's about you, it's about us.
